The Old Woman Made of Stardust

2016

'The Old Woman Made of Stardust’ was a short play I wrote and directed using puppetry and original music composed/performed by Sebastian Freeburn. It told the story of a young girl coming to terms with the death of her Grandmother, inspired by a letter my own grandmother wrote before her death.

The play was first performed as part of the London Student Drama Festival in 2015, and presented after re-development at Theatre N16 in 2016. I worked with childhood bereavement charity Winston’s Wish to ensure the play dealt sensitively with the themes, and explored the language we use to talk to children about death.

I have since adapted the script into a narrative poem, and plan to publish this as an illustrated book.
